Norsk Titanium Components signs supply contract with Kvaerner Piping Technology
Oslo, October 11th 2011.Norsk Titanium Components (NTiC), the producer of complex titanium components, today signed a three year general agreement with Kvaerner Piping Technology. Under the agreement NTiC will supply titanium couplings to Kvaerner Piping Technology as part of their system delivery to Trelleborg Offshore’s Elastopipe fire protection systems, used in the offshore oil and gas industry.

NTiC has developed a ‘near net shape’ additive layer manufacturing (ALM) technology that enables the production of high quality titanium components at very competitive cost. The process transforms in just three processing steps titanium feedstock into complex components that are up to 90 % finished compared with the final shape of a product. This results in a significant reduction in the amount of raw material that has to be machined away to make titanium parts.
- This contract is a major milestone for our young company, Petter Gjørvad, CEO of NTiC says. - Having our manufacturing process and product quality approved and accepted by a large, experienced enterprise as Kvaerner Piping Technology, is proof that we have succeeded in industrializing our game-changing production technology. Prior to becoming a supplier to Kvaerner Piping Technology, the NTiC-produced Elastopipe couplings have passed rigorous testing to ensure that material quality and properties meet the high standards necessary for the types of products in question.
- We have with great interest followed the progress that NTiC has made with their new production method for titanium parts, says Jan Arne Berg, CEO of Kvaerner Piping Technology. Lower cost in combination with faster and more flexible production cycles, without having to compromise on material quality, makes this a good deal for our company, and we look forward to continue our cooperation with NTiC.
